Ever since being in school back in 2014, I have noticed that having patience with my daughter, who was 2 at the time, is something that I struggle with. In my personal opinion, any child calls for patience upon mercy upon grace. So now that I have 2 girls, I want out time together to be full of fun and precious memories. “Family Fun Nights” is what my oldest daughter calls it. So now the question becomes: “God, how do I rebuild that area in my life and have better patience?” Answer: James 4:7.
Now if you have already subscribed to my blog you know that I talked about this verse in my “This is Faith” series (Full series starts with this post: This is Faith: Characteristics of Faith) but this time I talk about how this verse has completely changed my parenting.
This verse reads “Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.” Now as I mentioned in my post This is Faith: Align Yourself! we must submit to God first. But today I want to focus on the part “resist the devil”. Remember that church message I was talking about? Ever since I heard that preaching it has stayed in my spirit. 3 simple words have changed everything. Build a resistance.
To resist means to withstand the action or effect of. To withstand means to be undamaged or unaffected by. So by building a resistance moms, you are training yourself not to be affected by your current circumstances. You are not moving based on your emotions but instead on your submission. And by “current circumstance” I mean your toddler is having yet another tantrum because they want something they can’t have at the moment or they’re tired but don’t want to lay down. I’ve had plenty of those moments with my current 2 year old.
But by building a resistance you quickly realize those tantrums don’t last forever and your patience grows longer than their tantrum. Why? Because you are now enduring the difficult. You are withstanding. Not being affected by your circumstance. Another thing I always remember is to trust God because he is our refuge mamas!
He knew exactly what he was doing when he gave you your beautiful children. Your faith and dependence are now on God. Your strength now comes from God. God is now your source for everything.
So on this special day, just for you, I want to encourage you to build a resistance! Through all the tantrums. Build a resistance. Through all the tiny space left for you in your own bed. Build a resistance. Through rushed mornings and late nights. Build a resistance. Through everything build a resistance. You were made for this mama!
Happy Mother’s Day!
